• Prenatal Yoga 6-Week Series - January 6

    Prenatal yoga is not just a regular yoga class adapted for pregnant people.  At a time when everything is changing in your body, prenatal yoga helps moms-to-be reconnect with and build body awareness, stretch,  strengthen and release the muscles most easily affected by pregnancy and foster a greater understanding of what is happening with our bodies during pregnancy and childbirth.

    This series is great for all stages of pregnancy.

  • Post-Natal Yoga (with Babies) - Jan 8

    This postnatal class series, designed for moms with babies 6-weeks to pre-crawling, will focus on strengthening, stabilizing and stretching all of the areas of the body hit hardest by pregnancy, childbirth and caring for baby.

     

    This includes your chest and back muscles, your core and pelvic floor as well as your shoulders, neck and wrists.

    Restorative poses throughout each class will help soothe baby-addled nerves. With babies welcome in class, you can feel free to stop your practice anytime you need to care for baby. Each class gives you a chance to connect with other new moms in the community and talk about any issues you are having with your post baby body.

  • OMiles: A Yoga and Running Club-January
    with Kristina (Karuna) Maze

    Join yoga teacher and trail blazer Kristina (Karuna) Maze for a 4-week course combining running, hiking, and yoga stretches at nearby Rock Creek Park.

    Trail running is very much like yoga—a "moving meditation" combining breath work and a focus on the present moment.

    Maximum 5 participants to ensure social distancing. Meeting place will be sent out prior to first run.

    Core work is more than just crunches and ab exercises to lose weight or get a so-called six pack. Connecting to your core is about finding a sense of empowerment to take action to improve your life and to improve the wider world. We’ll spend six weeks learning about the manipura chakra – the energy center located at your navel. Come explore creative core strengthening work including how your breath and overall posture can lead you to feeling more empowered, confident, and strong.

     

    This series is open to anyone who’s looking to explore your inner power and connect to your center. Classes will be recorded and a copy of the recording will be sent to everyone who registers.

    Yoga is a proven way to lower stress, boost the immune system and build community (yes, even online!). It’s never too late to start a practice – and there’s no better way than joining our 6-week Yoga Fundamentals Intro Series.

    The class meets weekly with teacher Meredith McCullough and will cover the basics of a safe and effective yoga practice. Meredith will introduce you to breathing techniques that lower stress, simple standing and seated postures that build flexibility, and the building blocks for a simple Hatha Yoga practice that you can incorporate into your daily life.

    Join Abby for this special energetics workshop geared towards increasing your confidence and ability to fully inhabit your energy. This workshop is for anyone who identifies as an empath, or who is working towards becoming their most empowered and powerful self. Weaving together ceremony, yoga asana and pranayama practices, journaling, and community support, Abby will help each student feel grounded within their own unique energy field. You'll learn individualized tools to get familiar with what it feels like to act from a place of compassionate, embodied integrity. Students will leave the workshop feeling confident and steady, and with skills you can take into daily life to get more closely aligned with your dharma.

  • Spiritual Bypassing in the Yoga Community

    Here we are in 2021, just 8 months after the murder of George Floyd. In May, White people wanted book lists to understand antiracism, Black people wanted immediate justice, and some were somewhere in between….processing the complexity of racism that had been overtly exposed in American society...once again. 


     

    Now, the conversations have diminished. We, the yoga community, have fallen back into “business-as-usual with a virtual, Covid-19 twist” when now, more than ever, we must continue to ask the deeper questions of what can we do? What have we done? How can we heal our community of the wounds and scars of racism?


     

    Join Dr. Monea Abdul-Majeed, Racial Equity Strategist and 500-hour certified yoga teacher for this unique training, Spiritual Bypassing in the Yoga Community. After a brief discussion of racism in American history, we will uncover what spiritual bypassing is, how it shows up in yoga communities, and how to avoid it. It is only by lifting the veil of spiritual bypassing that we can uncover the spiritual solution that antiracism requires.
